Dubai Metro Blue Line: Construction Update and What to Expect by 2029

Dubai’s Metro Blue Line is steadily taking shape, with tunnelling work underway and the project now expected to reach 30 percent completion by the end of 2026, ahead of a planned opening in September 2029.

What the Blue Line Will Cover

The new line stretches 30 kilometres across 14 stations, connecting communities in the northeast of Dubai to the existing Red and Green Line network. It splits into two branches: a 21 kilometre route from Al Jaddaf through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, and International City to Dubai Academic City, and a 9 kilometre route from Al Rashidiya through Mirdif and Al Warqa.

Construction Progress So Far

More than 4.6 million work hours have already been completed, with over 3,000 workers and 500 engineers active across 12 sites. The project is on track to reach 30 percent completion by the end of 2026, with tunnelling officially launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in May 2026.

The World’s Tallest Metro Station

Dubai Creek Harbour will be home to what is set to become the world’s tallest metro station, standing 74 metres high and designed by SOM, the same firm behind the Burj Khalifa. The station is built to handle up to 160,000 passengers, with more than 70,000 expected to use it daily once operational.

Why This Matters for Residents

The Blue Line is expected to cut traffic congestion along served corridors by around 20 percent and connect riders to Dubai International Airport in just 20 minutes. Areas like International City and Dubai Silicon Oasis are projected to benefit most, with property values near stations expected to rise by up to 25 percent.
