Pakistan has the potential to earn $2 billion through the export of potatoes to China, thanks to the availability of containers at a lower cost for local manufacturers. With 99 percent reliance on locally produced seed potatoes, Pakistan has a competitive edge in meeting domestic potato consumption.
Among the provinces, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) contributes around 9 percent of Pakistan’s potato production, Balochistan accounts for 4.5 percent, and Sindh grows 0.5 percent of the total potatoes. The majority, about 86 percent, of the country’s potato cultivation and productivity comes from Punjab.
