A New Home for Gitex
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced that Gitex, together with Expand North Star, will move to Expo City Dubai starting with the 2026 edition. The relocation marks a fresh chapter after 45 years of the event helping establish Dubai and the UAE as leaders on the global technology map.
What Is TechCation?
As part of the move, organisers will introduce the world’s first and largest TechCation experience, blending technology and lifestyle through citywide activations across Expo City. The concept is designed to give visitors a broader experience beyond the exhibition floor, combining business networking with entertainment and cultural programming.
Backed by a Major Venue Expansion
The move aligns with a 2.7 billion dollar expansion of the Dubai Exhibition Centre at Expo City, which will more than double the venue’s exhibit space to 1.5 million square feet in its first phase, expected to complete in 2026. The full multi-phase project will eventually bring total indoor exhibit space to 1.9 million square feet, making it the largest purpose-built indoor events venue in the region.
Why This Matters for Dubai’s Tech Sector
The expansion supports Dubai’s goal of doubling the number of large-scale events it can host annually, from 300 in 2023 to more than 600 by 2033. Officials say the move strengthens Dubai’s position among the world’s top three urban economies and reinforces the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.
